To God and to the Word of His Grace, Which is Able to Build You up, and to Give You an Inheritance!

The New Testament passage, Book of Acts 20:32 says:

³²And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

God's true word is like food that makes us grow, as the above verse states, and as Jesus implies in his famous duel with the Devil, verse below:

⁴But he answered (the Devil) and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Children don't try to grow, they just eat, AND, they grow.

We Christians need to deliberately feed on the Word (the real Bible).

Of course we protect children from dangers, like GMO food, in my opinion.

Many knowledgeable people call GMO (genetically modified) food, Frankenfood, meaning Frankenstein food!

Many folks don't want to hear it, BUT, modern bibles are NOT safe for regular use. Some comparative usage is OK.

The Devil has NOT given them a PASS.

The Devil IS IN THE DETAILS!

REPEAT -- The Devil is very much in their details.

The King James Bible New Testament is translated from the Traditional Greek Text. So is the Geneva Bible the American Pilgrims used. So are other old bibles.

Modern Bible New Testaments are based on what is called the Critical Text.

This makes for about 1100 words difference between them.

These are TWO DIFFERENT BIBLES, NOT JUST "VERSIONS" OF THE SAME BIBLE.

The Lord Jesus Christ in his famous temptation in the wilderness -- his famous dual with the Devil, does NOT try to outwit or out-argue the Devil.

He wisely, correctly, answers the Devil with Scripture, the Bible, God's Holy Writ.

What a great example he leaves for us!

New Testament passage Matthew 4:

1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

²And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

³And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

⁴But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

⁵Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

⁶And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

⁷Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

⁸Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

⁹And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

¹⁰Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

¹¹Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

There are many Bible reading schedules - usually taking a year to read through the Bible.

Biblegateway.com has an assortment of plans.

A few tips I have learned.

Reading the Bible in a year may be much too much for many folks.

Better to bite off what you can chew.

I find if I get behind, it is better to NOT try to make it all up, but just continue with the present day's reading.

Many old church prayer books, or service books have schedules which may take years to read through the Bible.

I always try to read some, even when I'm real busy with other things, even if only a few verses.

My smart phone has the whole Bible - both text and audio.

Seems like a lot faster to listen to an audio bible, but retention may be less.

There are 150 Psalms and one Proverbs.

I usually skip the scheduled Psalms and Proverbs readings, and read a Psalm a day for 5 months and Proverbs on the sixth month, and then repeat this the next six months.

Speaking of Psalms, Psalm one is one of the greatest passages on Bible meditation.

Psalm 1:

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

²But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

³And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

⁴The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

⁵Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

⁶For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 19 is another favorite of mine, correctly citing God's two revelations, in Nature, and in Scripture.

Psalm 19:

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

²Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

³There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

⁴Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

⁵Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

⁶His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

⁷The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.

⁸The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

⁹The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

¹⁰More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹¹Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

¹²Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

¹³Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

¹⁴Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Many of the Psalms and the Proverbs stress the great importance of knowing and meditating on the Scriptures.

Psalm 119 is of course the grand daddy of Psalms in this respect.

Psalm 119 is an acrostic in Hebrew, with each successive group of eight verses, starting with each successive letter of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. (22 x 8 = 176 verses)
